A Statement of Solidarity

Content warning: this post includes mentions of residential schools

In May, 215 unmarked graves of Indigenous children were uncovered in the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Last week, 751 more graves were uncovered at a former residential school in Saskatchewan. This week another 182 graves were uncovered in BC, and undoubtedly more are going to be uncovered this summer as we face the reality of the genocide committed by the Canadian government and catholic church in Canada. There is nothing we as an organization can do to take away the pain our Indigenous communities are feeling right now, or will continue to feel as these truths continue to surface. All we can do is stand with them as they grieve, and take action where we can.

Cloudscape has made a donation to the Indian Residential Schools Survivors Society, and we invite others to join us in doing the same. We encourage all our readers and followers to listen to Indigenous voices, honour those whose lives were lost, and continue learning and supporting.

We leave you with this comic written and drawn by Raven John as part of our Comics In Transit series written and drawn by Indigenous comic artists. To read the rest of the series, which contains multiple stories about residential schools and their survivors, please follow the link here.
